12th Micropol & Ecohazard Conference

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th Micropol & Ecohazard Conference to be held from June 6th to 10th, 2022 in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain).
In recent years, there is a growing interest in research and development on emerging micropollutants associated with water including wastewater, surface and ground water. The list of contaminants in the urban water cycle is being broadened continuously with more chemicals such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, endocrine disrupting compounds, pesticides, etc. Moreover, effects such as antibiotic resistance are nowadays of high concern.
This conference is part of the IWA Specialist Group “Assessment and Control of Hazardous Substances in Water” conference series, which are conceived as an international forum for discussion on the state of the art in scientific development and technical solutions concerning emerging pollutants emission, treatment and effects. Some of the main topics included are: i) treatment at the source, ii) monitoring & analysis, iii) fate & behavior during wastewater and sludge treatment, iv) environmental & risk assessment, v) monitoring & control, and vi) prioritization/regulation & public acceptance. Additionally, other themes are considered such as biotransformation mechanisms, fate of nanoparticles, antibiotic resistance or microplastics in natural as well as engineering environments, etc.
We are delighted to host the conference in Santiago de Compostela, the historical capital of the region of Galicia and the destination of the medieval pilgrimage way of St. James since the 9th century. Its old town was designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The city is celebrating during 2021-2022 the holy year (120th in history), thus turning next spring into a very attractive moment to enjoy the city’s singular atmosphere.
The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Spain, was founded in 1495. It is positioned among 5-10 best universities in Spain according to the main rankings.

We look forward to welcoming you to Santiago de Compostela in June 2022.
